Parking on the loop road surrounding Prestwick Airport could be banned after police expressed concerns about “the increase in threat to security”.

A South Ayrshire Council committee will consider on Tuesday whether to make the A79 a 24-hour clearway.

A report before councillors states: “This will remove the opportunity to park a vehicle that may cause a threat to the operation of the airport”.

The move is “necessary for the safety” of drivers and air travellers, it adds.

The proposed clearway will run the length of the A79 Airport Loop Road from Shawfarm Roundabout to Monktonhill Roundabout.

The road loops around the airport runway and the main terminal building, covering a distance of more than one mile.

This post might be better titled Paranoia at Prestwick Airport :-) Seriously though, I can understand the concerns, but banning parking on the whole A79 Airport Loop Road seems a bit drastic. where are people to park?

Maybe it’s a ploy to increase revenues at Prestwick short stay airport parking facilities (I’m joking :-)).
